I am SO happy to finally be sharing this shoot! I was planning on blogging this fall engagement session last Friday evening, but then Toby surprised me with a mini weekend getaway for my birthday! We love weekend getaways that aren’t actually far away. We can stay in a hotel 20 minutes away from our house and it feels like a little vacation! He spoiled me all weekend and I forgot all about work for a few days. It was really great! But now I’m back in full swing and I get to blog possibly my favorite engagement shoot to date!
There is so much to love about these two and this shoot. The adorable flannels, the hay bails, the laughing, Bethany’s picture perfect hair, ah I can’t stop looking at the pictures! Everything about the day screamed fall. The weather could not have been better! It was one of the first days that actually felt like fall. You know, that slight chill in the air (but not too much where you feel like summer is over and you are cursing winter). It was a photographer’s dream day.
Bethany and David have known each other for years. They went to the same school growing up and were even friends in high school! It was the classic story of never quite getting the timing right. David said he even liked Bethany at different points but was always friend-zoned! It was so sweet to hear them tell their story, laughing at the same parts and reliving it all. These two have so much fun together! My goal as a photographer is always to give clear posing instructions, while still leaving room for the couple to show me their personality. For some couples, this means me posing just about every picture and for others I’ll pose one and they’ll run with it and forget I’m there! Bethany and David definitely fell into the latter category and I was loving it. They love to have fun together and I felt like I was just capturing the adorable moments as they were happening!
When we got to our final location and saw the hay bails, I was so happy that we saved the flannels for last. The whole second half of the shoot made me feel like they were a couple from a country song! Bethany and David, I can’t thank you guys enough for driving up from Richmond to spend the afternoon with me. You two are so fun to be around and you bring joy to everyone you’re with. I can’t wait to capture your wedding next year!
